because I’m having trouble understanding why it’s a bad thing.
Socialism is the radical idea that if you work you should be able to have control over your working conditions, wages, and profit, rather than having someone who does no work take a majority of the profits and give out meager wages. By collectively owning the means of production, workers get to make decisions about how business will run, as well as not having to give up a large portion of their pay to a boss. Under socialism, workers elect representatives who are paid a workman’s wage and subject to immediate recall. Bureaucratization is suppressed by making appointments and decisions by democratic election. The economy is planned to balance consumption and production, provide employment and the necessities of life to everyone, as well as allowing for leisure time and recreation - such as 30 hours work for 40 hours pay. Along with a centrally planned economy the state will control a nationalized banking and investment system so that finance can serve the people rather than profits. Socialism means not having to balance welfare against billion-dollar CEOs. Socialism means having time to form relationships and pursue pastimes without having to worry about whether you can put food on the table. Socialism means free and open access to information and technology. Socialism means an end to exploitation, and end to monopolies, an end to powerless politicians and empty political gestures. Socialism means a truer freedom than can ever be achieved under capitalism.
